Getting to know TachoPro

What is TachoPro?

TachoPro is an Android app for professional truck drivers. It reads your driver card (or connects to a smart tachograph over Bluetooth), tracks your driving and rest times under Regulation (EC) 561/2006, spots infringements, estimates your allowances and offers navigation suited to heavy vehicles.

Is TachoPro free?

Yes. The app is distributed free of charge on Google Play, with no in-app purchases and no subscription. It may display advertising provided by Google AdMob; in the European Union you are asked for your choice at first launch and can change it at any time in Profile → Privacy and data.

Does TachoPro replace my tachograph or my driver card?

No. TachoPro is a decision aid. The tachograph, the driver card and the documents required at a check remain the only enforceable records. The times, thresholds and amounts displayed are estimates calculated from the data read.

Is there an iPhone version?

TachoPro is available for Android (8.0 or newer). No iPhone version has been announced so far.

Is the app available in English?

Yes. The app is available in French and English; you pick the language at first launch.

Why do you call it a “test version”?

Some features change from one update to the next. Your comments, a calculation that looks wrong, a forbidden road suggested by the navigation, can be sent from Preferences, Privacy and data, or by email to tachopro@glsolution.fr. Every report is read.

Hardware and compatibility

What hardware do I need?

An Android 8.0 (API 26) phone or newer, and a way to read the card: a USB or Bluetooth card reader, or a smart tachograph with Bluetooth (Annex I C of Regulation (EU) 2016/799). No computer or desktop software is required.

Which tachographs work with the Bluetooth link?

The live link targets the second-generation smart tachograph (Smart Tachograph V2), through the Bluetooth ITS interface defined in Annex I C. For other devices, the driver card can be read with a card reader.

Which card readers are supported?

USB CCID readers plugged into the phone, and the Feitian bR301BLE Bluetooth reader, paired once. The card is read wherever you are, at the motorway rest area rather than after the round.

Does the app work without a network?

Card reading, file decoding, the dashboard, infringements and allowances are all calculated on the phone. Navigation needs a network to calculate the route and search an address; maps can be downloaded by country for driving out of coverage.

Does the phone have to stay on during a Bluetooth link?

No: the link holds with the screen off, thanks to a foreground service that Android shows in its notifications.

Personal data and privacy

Is my data sent anywhere?

Your driving activity, card files and payroll calculations stay on your phone, encrypted: they are sent nowhere and the publisher has no access to them. A few limited exchanges remain, described in the privacy policy: your position to calculate a route, technical usage measures not tied to your identity, and advertising provided by Google.

Can my employer or the publisher see my driving times?

The publisher has no access. A file only leaves your phone if you decide to send it (for example to your manager, using the Send button). TachoPro is neither a telematics tool nor a surveillance tool.

How do I export or erase my data?

From the Privacy and data screen of the app, you can export all your data or erase it. Uninstalling the app also removes it from the device.

What happens to my advertising choice?

In the European Union, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, a Google form asks at first launch whether you accept personalised ads. You can change your mind in Profile → Privacy and data → Ad privacy (Google AdMob). TachoPro does not pass your activity, card files or GPS position to Google.

Does this website set cookies?

No. This site uses no cookies, no analytics, no advertising and no external fonts. The only thing kept, and only if you choose it, is your theme (light or dark) and language, locally on your device. Details on the Cookies and storage page.

Who is the data controller and how do I exercise my rights?

The data controller is GLSolution, publisher of TachoPro. Your rights of access, rectification and erasure can be exercised from the app or by email to tachopro@glsolution.fr. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in France, the CNIL (cnil.fr).

Rules, calculations and limits

What are the “mandatory 28 days”?

The regulation requires you to be able to present the last 28 days of activity at a check. The app counts this window from the last day actually read, shows the days covered and tells you what is missing, before the check.

Which infringements does TachoPro detect?

The EU rules engine (Regulations (EC) 561/2006 and (EU) 2020/1054) tracks continuous and daily driving, breaks, daily and weekly rest, spread-over and working time. Each infringement is dated, ranked by severity, tied to the article behind it and explained with a diagram.

Are the calculations enforceable at a check?

No. They rely on the data read: a card not downloaded, a missing period, an absent manual entry or a changed rule can skew them. Always check with your employer or the texts in force before any driving or pay decision.

What does the France module calculate?

Breakfast, meal and night-away allowances (France and abroad), public holidays and Sundays worked, leave and other expenses, plus the month's overtime under the French national road transport collective agreement (CCNTR). The expense sheet exports as a PDF, photographed receipts included. Scales update without reinstalling the app.

Is the France module useful outside France?

The EU rules engine applies European regulations. The France module is specific to French law; it is switched on and off separately in Preferences.

Truck navigation

How is the guidance suited to trucks?

The route is calculated for the vehicle you saved: height, gross weight, length, width, axle load, and dangerous goods (ADR) with their tunnel restrictions. Guidance is spoken and the map reads well in full sun and at night.

Can I trust the guidance?

It relies on open map data (OpenStreetMap), which may be incomplete or out of date. Road signs always take precedence: a height, weight or prohibition posted at the roadside overrides the screen. Set up the guidance while stopped.

How do the stations for my fuel card work?

You declare the cards you carry (IDS, DKV, UTA, AS 24, Eurowag, E100, Routex, etc.). Along the route, stations that accept them are flagged; in destination search they are ranked by real road detour. A station that does not declare its cards is still shown: not knowing is not a refusal.

What are traffic reports?

Those you file on the map are shared with other drivers, and you can withdraw yours from the app. A clearly false or abusive report may be deleted.
